Black Lake, LA (5/27/2024) – A water rescue unfolded on Black Lake Monday afternoon when a barge overturned, leaving three adults, three juveniles, and a dog stranded in the water.
According to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright, the incident occurred at approximately 3:28 PM. In response to reports from the NATCOM 911 Center, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Agents, NPSO Search and Rescue, Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #9, and Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS swiftly mobilized to the scene north of Campti in Natchitoches Parish.
Before emergency crews could arrive, local boaters and residents on Black Lake acted promptly, rushing to the scene to assist and successfully rescue the barge’s occupants and their dog.
Despite the overturn of the approximately 26-foot-long vessel, there were no reported injuries. EMS personnel assessed the individuals involved to ensure no medical aid was required.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is currently investigating the boating crash. Additional details will be provided by LDWF as they become available.
