Blue Cliff College in Alexandria to Close as Community Voices Broader Concerns

ALEXANDRIA, LA (6/27/2025) – Blue Cliff College has confirmed that its Alexandria campus will close at the end of 2026, following a steady decline in enrollment. The career-focused college, known for programs in Practical Nursing, Medical Office Administration, Billing & Coding, Massage Therapy, Cosmetology, and Clinical Medical Assisting, has already stopped enrolling new students. The campus has also been removed from the school’s official website.

While the closure marks the end of an era for the local campus, many students expressed appreciation for the college’s honesty and transition plan.

“I’m thankful they were upfront about it,” one student said. “They’re giving us time to finish, and that means a lot.”

Another student reflected on the economic realities contributing to the decision. “Enrollment has been going down. Honestly, I think it’s because there just aren’t enough opportunities here for people to earn a living wage. The school had to do what made sense financially.”

Though Blue Cliff’s campuses in Metairie, Louisiana, Gulfport, Mississippi, and its online programs will remain open, the Alexandria closure is yet another blow to a city already grappling with business exits and population loss.

Community Voicing Crowning Concerns

Community members are voicing growing concern, not just about the school, but about the larger direction of Alexandria.

One resident asked, “Who’s actually working on a solution, and where’s the plan? We keep hearing the same promises, but nothing’s changing.”

Another shared, “Why are we losing more than we’re gaining? Every time a business shuts down, it feels like another step backward.”

Perhaps most tellingly, a third added, “How are we supposed to believe in the future of this city if our leaders don’t act like they care now?”

The closure of Blue Cliff College is more than a single institution shutting its doors. It’s a reflection of deeper, long-standing challenges—economic uncertainty, lack of upward mobility, and a growing disconnect between leadership and the people they serve.

As the year winds down and students work to complete their programs, Alexandria is left facing a critical question: What will be done before more is lost?
