Baton Rouge arrest made in shooting investigation

Baton Rouge, LA (9/20/2022) – Baton Rouge Police Detectives arrested Lawrence Brooks, 46 (pictured below), and Marley Banks, 33, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Investigators believe that Banks, and a 42-year-old female, were traveling in a Honda Accord near the 2400 block of Balis Street when they observed a Nissan Rogue following them. The female driver of the Honda observed the driver of the Nissan, Lawerence Brooks. Brooks and the female have had prior disputes. The female immediately contacted the police and advised she was being followed. She attempted to elude Brooks, but he was able to block her vehicle in the area of the 3600 block of Hundred Oaks Avenue. Brooks exited his vehicle, produced a firearm, and fired at the female. The female returned fire from inside her vehicle.

Brooks later arrived at a local hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. His injuries appear non-life-threatening.

Lawrence Brooks was arrested on charges of Attempted Second Degree Murder (2 counts), Illegal Use of a Weapon, and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property.
