Another Broad Daylight Murder Shocks Alexandria: Suspects Flee, Community in Fear

Alexandria, LA (6/18/2024) – In a harrowing incident that has left the Alexandria community reeling, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) responded to a fatal shooting on the 2700 block of Overton Street on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. The call came in at approximately 7:19 PM, with officers arriving to find one person deceased at the scene.

The suspects, who fled the scene in a vehicle, were later pursued by APD officers. They abandoned the vehicle at the intersection of Monroe Street and Louisiana Avenue, escaping on foot. Despite an extensive manhunt involving Louisiana State Troopers, Alexandria Fire Department, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, and other agencies, the suspects managed to evade capture. Residents were advised to stay indoors as tactical maneuvers were conducted to locate the suspects, resulting in restricted access to homes and streets in the area. The intense search lasted for about three hours, but the suspects remain at large.

The crime scene on Overton Street was secured by a limited number of APD officers and detectives. However, the scene was obviously understaffed, but professionally manned leading to traffic disruptions as multiple vehicles attempted to navigate the cordoned-off area.

Residents have expressed frustration over what they perceive as inadequate communication from Alexandria city officials. One concerned local remarked, “We need to be careful walking around with someone on the loose. It could turn into a hostage situation.” Another resident highlighted the lack of information about the suspects, saying, “The plates of the car were run, but no name or picture was released. Who are we supposed to be watching out for?”

The victim has been identified by his family as Ty’rez “K6” Gold, a 20-year-old father of a three-year-old daughter, Uh’zaya. Ty’rez’s mother shared that he started working at the age of 10, mowing lawns in the summer, and was well-liked by his friends.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
