Alexandria, La. (1/2/2026) – Alexandria recorded its first reported shooting of 2026 about 17 hours into the new year. The incident occurred Thursday, January 1, at approximately 5:50 p.m.
Alexandria Police responded to the 2200 block of Myrtle Street after receiving reports of a shooting. One person was transported to a local hospital.
UrbanCast reported the incident Thursday evening after receiving multiple community reports. At that time, police had not released official details. However, officers and Alexandria Fire personnel were observed near Myrtle and Thornton Streets. An EMS unit later left the area at a high rate of speed. Police also secured the scene with crime tape and remained on location.
Friday Morning
On Friday morning at 10:53 a.m., the Alexandria Police Department released an official press statement. Police identified 25-year-old Jaquan Hill as a suspect in the shooting. Investigators say Hill has an active warrant for attempted second-degree murder. Authorities consider Hill armed and dangerous. Police believe Hill may be in the Ball or Tioga areas.
Officials urge anyone with information about Hill’s whereabouts to contact police immediately. The investigation remains ongoing. Alexandria Police ask the public to assist with information related to this case or other crimes in the area.
