Alexandria, LA (Jul 29, 2024) – On Sunday, July 28, 2024, at approximately 2:35 PM, the Alexandria Police Department responded to a shooting on the 2200 block of West Sycamore Street.
Officers found 33-year-old Shawn Harper of Pineville, LA, and 23-year-old Kay’irian Barber of Alexandria, LA, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. A third person sustained gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
Multiple sources on the scene described the incident as a murder-suicide, although authorities have not confirmed this information.
The Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed two deceased victims, Kay’irian Barber and Shawn Harper. Both died from gunshot wounds sustained in the 2200 block of West Sycamore Street. These cases are currently under investigation, and autopsies are pending.
