Alexandria: Man shot and killed on Richmond Drive; bond set at $1,000,000

Alexandria, LA (6/14/2023) – The Alexandria Police Department (APD) reported and man was shot and killed on Richmond Drive.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 1:12 am, the APD was called to 909 Richmond concerning someone being shot.  When officers arrived, a male was found to have been shot several times and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. 

The victim is identified as Marcus Atkins Jr., 22-year-old from Alexandria, Louisiana.

Based on information obtained at the scene, 19-year-old George Carter of Alexandria, Louisiana, was identified as the suspect.  Officers arrested George Carter at his residence within minutes of the incident.  Carter was charged with second-degree murder and was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.

According to the Rapides Parish Inmate Inquiry System, the bond was set at $1,000,000.

This is currently an ongoing investigation.
