Alexandria, La. (8/26/2025) — The Alexandria Police Department has confirmed the arrest of 52-year-old Kevin Lamont Batiste Sr. following a fatal crash Monday night in the 3100 block of Hudson Boulevard.
According to an APD press release, officers responded around 8:45 p.m. on August 25 to a collision involving two vehicles and a motorized wheelchair. The operator of the wheelchair was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators report that the driver of a van, identified as Batiste, struck the motorized wheelchair. Batiste was subsequently arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide/DWI (2nd offense), Reckless Operation of a Vehicle, and Driving Under Suspension/Revocation.
Public Booking Records
Public booking records from the Rapides Parish Inmate Inquiry system confirm that Batiste was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center 1 at 12:36 a.m. on August 26. His total bond was set at $251,000, with $250,000 assigned to the vehicular homicide/DWI charge and $500 each for the additional two charges. He remains housed at the detention center under pre-trial status.
APD also noted that a second vehicle, described as a dark-colored Dodge Charger with heavy front-end damage, was involved in the crash but fled the scene before officers arrived. Detectives are actively working to locate this vehicle.
The investigation remains ongoing.
