Alexandria, LA (01/05/2026) — The Alexandria Fire Department responded early Monday to a fatal residential fire on Laurel Street. The fire occurred near the intersection of Laurel Street and Virginia Avenue.
At approximately 5:45 a.m., dispatchers sent fire crews to a reported structure fire. Firefighters arrived within three minutes and immediately observed heavy flames coming from one end of a mobile home.
Crews initiated an aggressive fire attack while conducting a search of the structure. During that search, firefighters located an unresponsive individual inside the home.
Emergency personnel quickly removed the patient and transferred care to emergency medical services. EMS transported the individual to a local hospital. However, the victim later died from injuries sustained in the fire.
Meanwhile, firefighters worked efficiently to control the blaze. Crews brought the fire under control within eleven minutes of arrival, preventing further spread.
Following the response, fire investigators conducted a preliminary investigation. Investigators determined the fire originated from an electrical issue inside the residence.
The Alexandria Fire Department has not released the victim’s identity. Officials are withholding the name pending notification of next of kin.
The incident remains under review as investigators complete their final report.
