Alexandria, LA (7/14/2024) – Trayce Snow has officially announced her intention to challenge incumbent Lee Rubin for the Council At-Large seat in the upcoming November 5th Open Primary Election. Snow revealed her candidacy on her website on Friday, July 12th, setting the stage for a significant political contest in Alexandria.
Rubin and his colleagues on the Alexandria City Council and the Mayor’s Office, faces mounting challenges that have raised concerns about their effectiveness in addressing the city’s issues. Among the primary concerns cited by citizens are public safety and crime rates, which have surged well above national averages, straining an already understaffed police department. Economic disparities and the lack of livable wage jobs further exacerbate the city’s distress. Compounding these problems are lack of transparency and a utility system crisis of unprecedented proportions, leaving many residents in uncertainty and hardship.
The upcoming election will also see other key positions up for grabs, including Councilman District #1 held by Reddex Washington, Councilman District #3 held by Cynthia Perry, and Councilman District #5 held by “Chuck” Fowler.
The stakes are high for Alexandria’s future direction, making this election a critical juncture for the city.
In light of these challenges, the importance of voting and holding elected officials accountable cannot be overstated. The November 5th Open Primary Election presents an immediate opportunity for citizens, young and old to voice their concerns and demand change from their elected officials.
Key dates for the election are fast approaching, with qualifying starting this Wednesday, July 17th, and running through July 19th, 2024. The in-person/by-mail registration deadline is October 7th, 2024, while the Geaux Vote online registration deadline is October 15th, 2024. Citizens have until November 1st, 2024, to request a mail ballot from the registrar, with the deadline for the registrar to receive voted mail ballots set for November 4th, 2024.
