New Orleans, LA (3/5/2023) – The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Elk Place and Canal Street, which left one person dead.
At about 10:18 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers responded to the location and found an unresponsive adult male lying in the street near a bus stop. The victim was declared deceased on the scene.
Through investigation, it was determined that an RTA bus had just unloaded and loaded passengers at the bus stop when the driver began to depart. The driver was then alerted by people outside of the bus to stop. The driver quickly stopped and discovered that the bus near its rear had struck the victim.
RTA and the bus driver are cooperating with the investigation.
Upon autopsy completion and family notification, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s office will identify the victim as the official cause of death.
