WASHINGTON, DC (June 4, 2025) — A nationwide recall has been issued for over 15,000 pounds of beef jerky and exotic meat snacks due to the presence of an undeclared allergen, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Springville Meat & Cold Storage Co., Inc., based in Springville, Utah, is recalling approximately 15,388 pounds of heat-treated, shelf-stable ready-to-eat (RTE) beef jerky, beef snack sticks, and voluntarily inspected elk, venison, and buffalo jerky products. The recall was prompted by the presence of fish (anchovies) in Worcestershire sauce used during production, which was not listed on the product labels.
The beef jerky allergen recall affects products produced between May 30, 2023, and May 30, 2025. These items bear establishment number “EST. 20528” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were distributed to retail locations across the United States.
FSIS discovered the issue during routine inspections when they observed that a change in Worcestershire sauce formulation introduced anchovies into the recipe. The prior version of the sauce did not contain fish, leading to unintentional misbranding and allergen omission.
While no illnesses have been reported, FSIS urges consumers with fish allergies to avoid consuming these products. Consumers are advised to check their pantries and discard or return any affected items.
