Drone Sightings in West Feliciana Prompt Investigation and Heightened Security

West Feliciana, La. (1/10/2025) – Drone sightings in West Feliciana are raising concerns as local officials work to identify the source of these mysterious flights.

Reports began on December 24th, with eyewitnesses describing drones up to five feet in diameter flying near critical infrastructure. Sheriff Brian Spillman has confirmed the sightings and emphasized the potential risk, noting that the flights occur over areas where drone activity is prohibited.

“These are not Christmas toys. We are treating this as a criminal violation and a threat to critical infrastructure,” Spillman said. The drones have been observed flying at altitudes between 200 and 500 feet, often hovering before disappearing into the night. All sightings so far have occurred after sunset, adding to the mystery.

To address the situation, Spillman’s office is collaborating with state and federal partners, deploying technology to track and identify the drones. Governor Jeff Landry has pledged full support, prioritizing the investigation and allocating state resources. Attorney General Liz Murrill is also engaged in the effort.

While no direct threats to public safety have been identified, officials are urging caution. Spillman reassured residents that his office is treating the matter with urgency but stressed there is no evidence of hostile intent.

Residents who witness unusual drone activity are encouraged to report it to the West Feliciana Dispatch Center at 225-784-3136. Officials continue to investigate the drone sightings in West Feliciana and seek additional resources to resolve the situation swiftly.
