Alexandria, La. (11/12/2024) – The Rapides Parish School Calendar for 2025-26 does not align with the schedule of the Rapides Parish Fair.
This discrepancy comes after October’s public poll, which reached over 21,000 impressions, showing overwhelming support for synchronizing the school break with the fair.
The poll, which received 545 reactions and 218 comments, revealed strong community backing for aligning fall break with the fair. Parents and community members emphasized the cultural importance of the fair and its role in family traditions. Despite this, the proposed 2025-26 calendar does not accommodate the fair’s timing.
In response, the Rapides Parish School Board has invited public feedback on the proposed calendars for 2025-26 and 2026-27. The board is encouraging residents to express concerns or suggestions through an online survey available at rpsb.la/2527schoolcalendar.
Community members are hopeful that their feedback will influence future decisions. Many believe aligning the school calendar with the fair schedule benefits students, families, and local traditions.
