Vernon Parish, LA (4/27/2024) – A tragic two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 171 at Entrance Road claimed the life of 74-year-old Hui Son Lyons of New Llano. Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to the incident at approximately 10:30 a.m. on April 27, 2024.
According to the preliminary investigation, Lyons was driving a 2007 Nissan Versa westbound on Entrance Road and came to a stop at U.S. Highway 171. As the traffic light changed to green, Lyons proceeded to cross the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 171 in an attempt to head southbound. However, tragedy struck when a northbound 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 69-year-old Haskel Roshong of Logansport, failed to stop at the red light and collided with the Versa.
Despite being restrained, Lyons sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Roshong and another passenger, both of whom were also restrained, sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
While the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, authorities emphasize the dangers of distracted and inattentive driving. Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to remain vigilant while behind the wheel, as even a momentary lapse in attention can have devastating consequences.
In 2024 alone, Troop E Troopers have responded to 21 fatal crashes resulting in 23 fatalities, underscoring the importance of safe driving practices to prevent further tragedies on our roadways.
