ALEXANDRIA, La. (3/25/2024) – Governor Jeff Landry announced a $39M investment in Renaissance Juvenile Facility during a press conference on today, March 25, 2025 in Alexandria.
Landry was joined by local and state leaders who praised the funding as a major win for Central Louisiana. The $39M investment in Renaissance Juvenile Facility will support construction of a modern, secure expansion and renovations to the existing dorm.
Renaissance primarily holds juvenile offenders from the Central Louisiana parishes. The expansion will increase capacity and enhance rehabilitation services.
A portion of the funds will ensure sustainable operations, helping the facility keep juvenile offenders close to home.
The announcement follows the successful renewal of the facility’s tax in December, which passed with 55% of the vote.
Voters have renewed the tax in every cycle since 1974, reflecting long-standing community support for the home.
Endorsements for the 2024 renewal included Sheriff Mark Wood, District Attorney Phillip Terrell, and State Senator Jay Luneau. Each emphasized the facility’s role in public safety and second chances.
With added beds and better infrastructure, officials say Renaissance can better guide youth toward becoming productive citizens.
