Alexandria, LA (4/28/2024) – As the November 5th Open Primary Election looms, citizens of Alexandria are facing critical decisions regarding key offices up for reelection.
With offices like Councilman at Large, currently held by “Lee” Rubin, Councilman District #1 held by Reddex Washington, Councilman District #3 held by Cynthia Perry, and Councilman District #5 held by “Chuck” Fowler, the stakes are high for the future direction of the city.
However, amidst the campaign fervor, major issues are looming large, casting a shadow over the electoral process. Citizens are struggling with pressing concerns such as public safety, with crime rates soaring well above national averages and an understaffed police department battling to keep pace. Additionally, the city is grappling with a lack of livable wage job growth, compounded economic disparities among its residents. Adding to the city’s distress is a utility system crisis of unprecedented proportions, leaving many residents facing uncertainty and hardship.
In light of these challenges, the importance of voting and holding elected officials accountable cannot be overstated. The November 5th Open Primary Election presents an opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns and demand change from their representatives.
Key dates for the election include the qualifying period from July 17th to July 19th, 2024. The in-person/by-mail registration deadline is October 7th, 2024, while the Geaux Vote online registration deadline is October 15th, 2024.
