Hammond, La. (9/28/2023) – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Office is currently investigating allegations of a teacher-student relationship at one of our local high schools.
Sheriff Daniel Edwards confirms a report was taken on Sunday, September 24, 2023, alleging a 17-year-old male fathered a child with a Tangipahoa Parish School System employee. Upon receiving the allegation, sheriff’s office juvenile detectives immediately began investigating the claims.
Due to the specific nature of the investigation and the alleged involvement of a juvenile, the sheriff’s office will not release further information, nor will we comment due to privacy laws, to uphold the integrity of the investigation. A representative with the Tangipahoa Parish School System confirmed that the teacher implicated in the investigation recently resigned from her position.
“While we cannot share specific details regarding the investigation, we can confirm that the allegations were dealt with promptly, and the investigation process has been rigorous and thorough. This type of investigation is time-consuming and is being handled with great care. Under no circumstances will we be rushed for closure.”

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made. Sheriff Edwards feel it is necessary to remind the public of the dangers and implications of spreading false information or rumors, primarily through social media outlets. Doing so could detrimentally affect those involved and the outcome of the investigation.
