Thursday’s Weather (3/16/2023)

Clouds will increase throughout the day ahead of an approaching cold front. Some showers and thunderstorms may develop over southeast Texas before moving into inner Texas counties and Louisiana parishes during the afternoon.

High temperatures will top out in the mid to upper 70s, with southerly winds 15 to 25 mph and gust up to 40 mph.

Tonight, showers and thunderstorms will spread eastward throughout the night as the cold front enters the area. Some storms may become severe with damaging winds, the main concern. Some embedded tornadoes within the line and small hail cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will quickly start to fall with the front, mid 40s northwest of the front with mid to upper 50s for those to the southeast. Elevated winds will also continue after dark with southerly winds 15 to 20 mph and gusts 30 to 35 mph expected.

Tomorrow a cold front will continue its eastward trek in the early morning hours Friday. Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some severe, are expected until the front departs in the early afternoon. Some light showers may linger in the afternoon and early evening.

Temperatures will begin to fall behind the front with those in interior Texas only warming into the mid to upper 50s while those in southwest Louisiana top out in the mid 60s to lower 70s. Winds behind the front will be elevated and from the north at 15 to 25 mph and gusts 30 to 35 mph expected. Another Wind Advisory will likely be needed during the day Friday.
