Suspect accused of Covington double murders attempts to escape jail; transferred to Angola

Covington, La. (12/3/2022) – According to the St. Tammanyy Parish Sherrif’s Office, the suspect connected with the double murders of a retired priest and his assistant was transferred to Angola. The suspect attempted to escape from the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

Antonio Tyson, 49, of Covington, Louisiana, is accused of murdering and burning the bodies of Father Otis Young and Ruth Prats beyond recognition.

Tyson was charged with attempted escape, rebooked on the additional charge, and transferred to Angola State Penitentiary.

Also arrested was David Burns, 71. Burns is charged with one count of principal to attempted escape.

No further information is known.
