Monroe, LA (2/16/2025) – The State Fire Marshal investigates a house fire in the Monroe area that tragically resulted in one death.
Just before 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2025, Ouachita Parish Fire Districtresponded to a residential fire in the 500 block of Marion Street in unincorporated Monroe. Firefighters discovered a man in his 60s inside the home, but he did not survive.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. However, with freezing temperatures returning to Louisiana, officials are reminding residents to practice home heating safety:
• Keep space heaters 3-5 feet from flammable items like blankets.
• Plug heating appliances directly into wall outlets, not power strips or extension cords.
• Do not use stoves or ovens to heat homes.
• Avoid overfilling fireplaces and wood-burning stoves.
• Never leave candles, open flames, or space heaters unattended.
• Ensure your home has working smoke alarms.
