Memphis, TN (2/3/2023) – According to a public statement issued by the Memphis Police Department, a sixth police officer has been fired in connection with Tyre Nichols’s breathing.
Preston Hemphill was fired Friday, February 3, 2023, after an internal police investigation revealed he violated department policies in the brutal arrest of Mr. Nichols.
Hemphill had been relieved of duty as the investigation proceeded.
According to the public state release by MPD, Hemphill was fired for the following violations:
-Personal conduct
-Truthfulness (lying)
-TASER
-Uniform
-Processing recovered property
Hemphill tased Mr. Nichols and said, “I hope they stomp his ass,” according to body-cam video.
Hemphill has not been charged.
