Shreveport: Coroner releases the names of the four young men fatally shot on the 4th of July

Shreveport, LA (7/6/2023) – The Caddo Parish Coroner’s office has named four Shreveport men killed or mortally wounded at an Independence Day party in the Martin Luther King Jr. neighborhood Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

Three victims died at the scene and were Caddo Parish’s 38th, 39th, and 41st homicides of the year. They were shot around 11:40 pm in the 2100 block of Pearl Street, near Jones-Mabry Road. Two immediately identified as deceased at the scene were Morad Aziz, 22, of Stewart Lane, and Jarike J. Dorsey, 19.

Also shot around 11:40 p.m. at the Pearl Street party on July 4 was Demorie Williams, 24, of Martha Lane. He was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds at 12:31 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2023. Mr. Williams’ death marked the 40th homicide of the year for Caddo Parish.

A fourth decedent, a 17-year-old male, was found nearby in a field at 9:27 a.m. Wednesday, July 5. That decedent has been identified as Syncere Brown of Jody Lane. He was the 41st homicide of the year.

Autopsies were ordered for all four decedents, whose deaths remain under investigation by the Shreveport Police Department.
