Severe weather is forcasted for Thursday

A storm system has the potential to bring severe weather to the area on Thursday afternoon into Thursday night.

According to the NWS Lake Charles, there is a Slight Risk Potential (level 2 out of 5) for locations west of the Highway 171 corridor, with a Marginal Risk Potential (level 1 out of 5) for locations east of the Highway 171 corridor. There is the potential for all modes of severe weather including damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes.

Along with the severe weather, there is also the potential for heavy rainfall during that time frame. A Marginal Risk Potential (level 1 out of 4) for Excessive Rainfall that would lead to flooding is outlined for the entire area.

Rainfall amounts will average between 1/2 and 1 inch area wide, however, there is the probability of seeing rainfall amounts greater than 2 inches. If these amounts fall in a short period of time, then there will be a risk of flooding.
