Eunice, LA (1/21/2023) – According to an incident report from Eunice Police Department, The fight happened January 13, 2023, and began between a Eunice High School and Washington-Marion High School basketball player. The report stated that adults and fans got involved in the melee, but no arrests have been made.
Some Residents in Lake Charles do not agree with the decision and believe the team should be given a second chance. They call on the LHSAA to remove the ban and let the boys resume playing.
The Calcasieu Parish School Board (CPSB) confirmed that the Louisiana High School Athletic Association had suspended the Washington-Marion team indefinitely.
The St. Landry school board has not decided on the Eunice Boys team and whether or not they should be suspended. This is truly a hard pill to swallow for fans and supporters of Washington-Marion. One citizen said, “Why take the one thing that keeps them out of the streets?”
3IA does NOT condone violence in any form or fashion.
The kids involved should not be fighting, period, but one has to ask, should the adults involved bear the brunt of this punishment?
Should the fans who came out of the stands and got involved in a fight between kids be prosecuted?
Should the LHSAA take away these boys’ basketball season while the adults involved go unscathed?
Is this act by LHSAA indeed a travesty?
Hopefully, the LHSAA will have some compassion in their decision and reinstate the team.
It would be the best thing for all involved.
