Pineville, LA (3/18/2023) – The State Fire Marshal (SFM) reported Deputies investigated a house fire in Pineville, Louisiana, that claimed the lives of two people.
Around 2:00 am Saturday, March 18, 2023, the Pineville Fire Department responded to the 500 block of Grant for a report of a house fire. Sadly, the bodies of two residents were located in the remains of the home. Four other occupants were able to escape.
While the investigation is early and ongoing, it appears the cause will likely be home heating related and possibly involve utilizing an oven for warmth.
The SFM is stressing to all Louisianans to PLEASE heat their homes safely by following the below tips:
- Place space heaters 3-5 feet from combustible objects like blankets
- Plug all heating appliances directly into wall outlets, not power strips or extension cords
- Do not use stoves or ovens to heat homes
- Don’t overfill fireplaces/wood-burning stoves
- Do not leave candles/open flames (or space heaters) left unattended
- Have working smoke alarms in your home!
