NFL Super Bowl Champ Malcolm Mitchell returns to Rapides Parish for a “Reading Revival”

Alexandria, LA (1/20/2023) – NFL Super Bowl Champion and Children’s Book Author Malcolm Mitchell Returns to Rapides for a “Reading Revival,” to speak to 10,000+ Cenla Kids about the love of reading and to put books in the hands of close to 3,000.

Malcolm Mitchell, Super Bowl Champion, Children’s Book Author and Literacy Crusader will be returning for a “Revival” of what he began in the fall in Central Louisiana: to revive a passion and love of reading among kids: over 10,000 of them to be exact.

Mitchell’s return to Cenla comes on the heels of the “GeauxREAD” Tour this past fall, where his Share the Magic Foundation held signature “Read with Malcolm” reading rallies and gave books to over 3,500 kids in nine schools across nine parishes.

Mitchell and his Share the Magic Foundation will be visiting 12 schools and hosting three community evening events over the course of three days in what’s being billed as the “Reading Revival.”

“I could not be more excited to be coming back to Rapides Parish,” said Mitchell. “The GeauxREAD Tour was an amazing experience. The energy and passion for reading in Rapides schools is incredible. I am honored to be a part of the community’s efforts. I can’t wait to see everyone. Don’t miss the Reading Revival.”

Close to 3,000 elementary-aged children will be receiving a copy of Mitchell’s Children’s Book “My Very Favorite Book in the Whole Wide World. They will participate in the “Reading Rally, an hour-long program that combines a traditional author’s visit with Malcolm and a high-energy pep rally!

The older students will join Malcolm for the Reader to Leader series: an hour-long program designed for middle and high school students that features Malcolm’s compelling storytelling in an interactive environment. School officials designate student moderators to lead their peers alongside Malcolm through an engaging discussion about the value of literacy while connecting the dots between reading and long-term success.

In addition to the school visits, three huge nights of community events are planned:

  1. January 23 from 4:30 P.M. – 6:30 P.M. at the Bolton Street Community Center in Alexandria
  1. January 24 from 4 P.M. – 6 P.M. at Cheatham Park in Alexandria (By the Baseball Field on Broadway Ave.)
  1. January 25 from 5 P.M. – 7 P.M. at the Nursery Festival Grounds in Forest Hill.

All events will feature Malcolm Mitchell, food vendors, music, literacy games and resources, various fun activities for students and adults and much more. There is no admission fee to attend each event.

At the same time, thousands of kids across Louisiana are competing in Mitchell’s free READBowl Global Reading Competition. Kids all over the state have joined more than 100,000 kids across the country and in seven, reading in hopes of being crowned the World Champions of Reading on Super Bowl Sunday. There will also be Louisiana State Champions crowned.
