Monday’s Weather (12/19/2022)

A wet and chilly start to the week. Look out for local heavy rainfall today (Monday) into the evening hours. Widespread showers and a few thunderstorms will produce an average 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts. There is a Marginal Risk Potential (level 1 out of 4) for excessive rainfall that may lead to flooding, mainly of poor drainage in urban areas and other low spots.

An arctic airmass is still on schedule to reach the region late Thursday. Although there is still some uncertainty to the details.

The potential seems to be increasing that a bitterly cold and dangerous airmass with prolonged hard freeze conditions and life-threatening wind chills will move into southeast Texas, as well as central, south-central, and southwest Louisiana. The very cold hard freeze temperatures will likely linger into the Christmas Holiday Weekend.

Residents are urged to have a plan to protect from these harsh winter conditions. The potential exists that precautions to protect people, pets, pipes, and plants will likely be needed beginning on Thursday night.

Take care, and continue to monitor the latest on this weather situation.
