Evergreen, LA (1/27/2024) – Saturday, January 28th, Detectives from the Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit (FIU) were summoned to probe a Trooper-involved shooting incident on Goudeau Road in Avoyelles Parish.
Early in the morning, the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) received reports of a subject engaging in criminal damage to property on Goudeau Road and issuing bomb threats to neighbors. Upon the arrival of Cottonport Police Department Officers and Deputies, the male subject was encountered. The situation escalated when the subject fled into his residence, barricading himself inside. Consequently, APSO sought assistance from the Louisiana State Police to manage the barricaded subject.
Upon the arrival of Troopers, attempts were made to establish communication with the subject for a peaceful resolution. However, during the interaction, the subject exited the residence, brandishing a firearm, leading to an exchange of gunfire initiated by his actions.
The subject sustained severe injuries and was swiftly transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries, marking a tragic end to the incident.
No law enforcement personnel were harmed during this exchange.
Local residents reported that the incident commenced around 10:45 am, with shots heard and an ambulance arriving on the scene around 3:23 pm.
The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab Technicians and Detectives processed the scene.
