Lafayette, LA (8/5/2023) – The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) reported two police officers were shot and three others were injured by gunfire.
Around 2:14 am Lafayette Police Department (LPD) was called to break up a fight in the 100 block of South General Marshall Street. Upon officers’ arrival, a suspect started shooting at the responding officers, hitting two. A third officer returned fire, and three other people were injured.
Both officers were shot multiple times and were transported to a local hospital; both officers are in stable condition. Three others were shot; one child is dead, and a mother and child are in critical condition at a local hospital.
The suspect was also injured and in custody and received
medical treatment at a local hospital.
