Rapides Parish, LA (4/11/2024) – Forest Hill and Glenmora residents are grappling with severe flooding as key roadways succumb to rising waters, disrupting travel and posing risks to motorists.
Ahtus Melder Road, located near Spring Creek, has been completely submerged, cutting off access between Forest Hill and Glenmora. The creek, overflowing its banks, has inundated the roadway, rendering it impassable.
Pictures from both sides of Ahtus Melder Road depict the extent of the flooding, with water levels rising dangerously high.
“This is the roadway that connects Melder Road to Highway 112 east of the Melder Community,” stated a local resident, emphasizing the road’s significance in the area.
Furthermore, Boy Scout Road at Highway 165 in Glenmora is also experiencing flooding, further complicating travel in the region. While larger vehicles may navigate the flooded road, smaller vehicles are unable to pass safely, according to residents.
As night fell, conditions did not improve. A resident from the Glenmora side reported worsening conditions overnight, with floodwaters continuing to rise. A photo taken around 5 AM from the Glenmora side of Athus Melder Road highlights the escalating severity of the flooding, underlining the challenges faced by local communities.
These road closures have significant implications for residents and commuters, hindering access to essential services and disrupting daily routines.
State and local authorities urge residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas.
