Firefighters Battling Wildfires Near Dequincy; Food Donations Needed

Dequincy, LA (2/24/2024) – As wildfires continue to rage in the Hargrove area just north of Dequincy, firefighters are in need of essential supplies to sustain their efforts.

Video footage captured by Katie Royer depicts the intensity of the fire near La. 389 and Hargrove Loop, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

To support the men and women combating the blaze, food donations are being collected at Hargrove Pentecostal Church, located at 1079 Fields Hwy. Firefighters require easily accessible snacks and meals that they can consume on the go, along with drinks containing electrolytes to replenish their energy levels.

Although roads near the church are currently blocked off, individuals wishing to contribute can access the donation drop-off point by proceeding to the first driveway of the church and informing the officer stationed there of their intention to deliver food supplies.

In light of the escalating fire situation, the Ward 6 Fire Protection District in Dequincy issued a plea urging residents to refrain from burning anything.

The prevailing dry conditions, coupled with low humidity and high winds, pose an elevated risk, causing even small fires to escalate rapidly. Firefighters have been battling the blaze throughout the day and night.

The community’s cooperation in refraining from burning activities is essential to mitigate the risk of further wildfires and ensure the safety of both residents and emergency responders.
