Federal Grand Jury indicted a Baton Rouge man for stealing over $300,000 from a disabled relative

Baton Rouge, LA (12/9/2022) – A federal grand jury indicted a Baton Rouge man for stealing over $300,000 from a disabled relative.

Michael D. Hopwood, Jr., 39, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was indicted on four counts of wire fraud.

Hopwood was responsible for assisting with the financial matters of a disabled relative.

After receiving the victim’s personal information, set up automatic payments. Hopwood made $300,000 worth of unauthorized purchases, transfers, and withdrawals from the victim’s account. The transactions between November 2019 – February 2020.

On Friday, December 9, 2022, Hopwood was indicted by a grand jury & plead not guilty.
