Alexandria, LA (12/20/2024) – Alexandria man JC Green will celebrate his 100th birthday on Monday, marking a century of remarkable achievements and dedication. Born on December 23, 1924, Green entered the world with the help of a midwife in the Bayou Rapides area.
Green’s early years were spent with his nine siblings, one sister and eight brothers. He attended Bethlehem Baptist Church for school, walking daily to obtain his sixth-grade education. By age 15, he began working 40-hour weeks, earning $10 weekly.
At 18, Green enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving 3 ½ years during World War II. He saw action in Guam and Okinawa, contributing to efforts in the South Pacific. After his military service, he married Willie Mae Lair, and the couple raised five children, two daughters and three sons.
In 1960, Green relocated to Oak Cliff, Texas, where he worked as a driver for Golden Industrial. After 38 ½ years of service, he retired but continued to live an active life. Remarkably, at 99 years old, he still drives and maintains both a car and a truck.
A man of faith, Green has been a deacon at Rising Star Baptist Church for 72 years, most of that time as head deacon. Known for his sharp dressing and independent spirit, he attributes his long life to his devotion to God and living by his motto: “Serving God and supporting his family.”
Surrounded by about 200 nieces and nephews, JC Green continues to inspire his family and community as he reaches this incredible milestone.
