Alexandria, LA (6/28/2023) – A heated debate between Alexandria’s mayor and a citizen at a city council meeting this week has many residents saying their First Amendment rights aren’t being respected and the process to do business with the city is questionable at best!
Item (9) on the agenda was an item to consider final adoption of an ordinance authorizing the mayor to renew the existing contract with Transformation Janitorial Service for ATRANS Bus Terminal. At public comment was when all hell broke loss.
Mr. LaCour said, “I have tried to talk to the mayor about this,” the mayor shook his head; Mr. LaCour then said, “You have not returned any of my calls” The mayor continued to shake his head. Mr. LaCour said, “Mayor, that is an outright lie!”
Mayor Roy said, ‘This why no one will speak to Mr. LaCour; we are in constant litigation with him.”
Mr. LaCour for his part in this, alleges the mayor is paying people with city funds that the city council has not approved to do business with the city.
In an an alarming sense of confidence, President of the Alexandria City Council Lee Rubin dismissed the matter by telling Mr. LaCour to write a letter to the same group of people who are ignoring him.
Maybe there needs to be a citizen oversight committee or something similar to take a look when these type of issues pop up from a citizen. We are not sure of the details related to Mr. Lacour’s issues with the Mayor and the city but this is not the first or last time a citizen will complain about how this administration does business.
Tax paying Citizens deserve to know the process is fair. That’s all!
