A Lafayette Parish Deputy arrested, charged with bringing contraband into jail

Lafayette, La. (11/24/2022) – A Lafayette Parish Correctional Center deputy has been arrested and charged with bringing drugs into the jail.

Donald Gilbert Jr., 40, of Lafayette, has been charged with three counts of Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Facility, one count of PWITD Schedule 3 (Suboxone), and three counts of Criminal Conspiracy.

Gilbert has been employed with LPSO as a correctional deputy for about eight months and placed on administrative leave without pay after an “extensive investigation,” said a department spokesperson.

Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber said the safety and security of the employees and offenders in the jail is a top priority.

“This type of behavior undermines those efforts and will not be tolerated,” . . . “We will continue to hold our deputies accountable to the highest standards.”
