Alexandria: Rapides Avenue Standoff; man shot and killed by officer

LSP UPDATE

Alexandria, LA (4/17/2023) – The Alexandria Police Department (APD) requested Troopers to investigate an officer-involved shooting on Rapides Avenue at 12th Street, within the city limits of Alexandria. One subject was shot and has been pronounced deceased. No officers were injured during the incident.

This is an active scene; please utilize alternate routes around the area to allow emergency vehicles and investigative personnel to move.

Alexandria, LA (4/17/2023) – According to the Alexandria Police Department, Louisiana State Troopers will issue a full report of the standoff on Rapides Avenue.

According to Louisiana State Police, a man is deceased following a policing incident on Rapides Avenue.

Sources on the scene said a police officer stopped a man in what appeared to be a normal traffic stop; however, the man ran away. The man ran into a wooded area just north of 12 Street off Rapides Avenue.

APD, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana State Police were on the scene.

No further information is known at this time.
