COMMENTARY: Hip hop and its cultural influence on every piece of fabric in this country

Baton Rouge, LA (4/3/2023) – Hip hop and its cultural influence on every piece of fabric in this country. No industry, job, or sports league is uninfluenced by hip hop, and it’s brag and boast about your accomplishments mandate that goes with the music.

Something as iconic as John Cena’s hand wave over his face and the words “you can’t see me” uttered right after comes directly from hip hop. “You can’t see me” literally means you are not on my level. You and your people thought you were, but when it was time to show, you were not. It is one of the most used hip-hop terms and has maintained its relevance from the beginning of hip-hop to now.

We can show you an example of Rakim saying you can’t see me in 1986 and a Drake lyric From 2022 implying the same thing! YOU CANT SEE ME!

So to see this controversy about Angel Reese “rubbing” it in Caitlyn Clark’s face by saying “you can’t see me” on several occasions and in her face once or twice took us aback.

Especially considering Clark has several times this tournament made that same gesture at her opponents and even going so far in one instance to brush off her opponent on South Carolina as an afterthought! Total disrespect!

BUT TOTALLY PART OF THE GAME!! And totally allowed.

There is a thing called trash talk in all sports. The GOATS, like Tiger and Jordan, ask their opponents; no one’s better. Caitlyn Clark is a once in a generational talent!  She likes to talk trash and get buckets! But her fans and supporters must be able to take her being taunted and trash-talked, too, after she has done it the whole time she was successful.

Right is right. And Sports are Sports. What those athletes do to succeed and ultimately fail is unbelievable. If they, at the moment, want to take advantage to taunt the generational goat after they defeated her and her movement, By golly, let those girls do that.

But to blame it on the music they listen to and the community they are influenced by is tragic. When Caitlyn Clark was doing the “You can’t see me,” what or who was she influenced by?
