Mentors and Movies, guest speaker a “Difference Maker”

Alexandria, LA (4/10/2023) – The recent MOTH Movie & Mentor event was a smashing success, with Rihanna singing “Lift Me Up” as the curtains closed to thunderous applause. And despite the fact that the movie was the longest ever, the audience was thoroughly engaged and entertained throughout the night.

Dewayne Dupar, also known as the “Difference Maker,” delivered an inspirational presentation on the importance of active listening and adding value to build better understanding and comprehension. He also emphasized the significance of respect for oneself and the community, which was an important lesson for the young audience in attendance.

Jermaine Jackson, the MOTH Corp student president, and Kourtland Marcotte, the vice president, and Immanuel Morris secretary, were instrumental in making the event a success. The teenagers showed an insatiable hunger for popcorn and were honored to be served pizza by Jay Scott, Police Juror. Speaking of popcorn, I must also mention that back in my Carmike Cinema 6 days I was the number one ranked popcorn architect in the nation, just throwing that out there.

The Black Panther movie was a feature of the night, exemplifying power and tradition with its amazing visual depictions of nature, culture, swag, art, cool weapons, and Vibranium. The movie also featured the coolest new technology, artificial intelligence and an Iron Man suit built by an M.I.T student.

The core lesson for the night for MOTH Corp was “Focus,” and the teenagers were asked to pay close attention to the movie. A trivia game followed, with questions from the movie, such as what does “Namor” mean? Which meant “Child without Love” and spelled Roman backwards as a symbolic hidden message. The meaning of the name Namor may represent stark interest In between the increase of violent crimes and the lack of access, opportunity, recreation for the youth here in the city of Alexandria, Louisiana.

The Principal of Alexandria Middle Magnet School, Mrs. Beaudion, and Officer Len Hall deserves special recognition for always welcoming community building and being incredible leaders.

The MOTH Corp Family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to everyone who helped put on this amazing event, including We Care Behavioral Health, District 1 Councilman Reddex Washington, Jay Scott (Police Juror), Jack Henton, Candy Terry, Lorraine Diedre, Terry Jenkins, Ashley Davis, Julian Berry, Eric Howard, Derrick Alexander, Victor Turner, and Jamar Smith. Together, they all made this community event a night to remember.
