Rapides Parish, LA (12/29/2022) – According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page, the scammers are at it again!
We have received several calls this afternoon about someone identifying as a deputy sheriff with Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office. They are attempting to collect a fine because of the person not showing up for jury duty.
Of course, this is a scam. Law enforcement NEVER calls to collect a fine. Jury duty is a civic responsibility as a citizen. However, no fine is associated with failing to report for jury duty.
NEVER pay anyone over the phone or through email that you did not initiate. And again, law enforcement will never contact you to get you to pay a fine over the phone.
