Two New Orleans teens killed, four injured in a mass shooting

New Orleans, LA (12/28/2022) – According to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), two teens were killed, and four were injured in a mass shooting on St. Maurice Street.

Upon arrival, NOPD Officers located four victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to their bodies.

Emergency Medical Technicians pronounced the 19-year-old male and 19-year-old female dead on the scene. The two 18-year-old males were transported to a local hospital via Emergency Medical Services. The 17-year-old female and 18-year-old female were transported to a local hospital via private conveyance.

NOPD Homicide is investigating the death of a 19-year-old male and 19-year-old female and the shooting of a 17-year-old female, an 18-year-old female, and two 18-year-old males. The offense occurred shortly after 12:30 A.M. in the 2000 block.

Courtney Hughes, a Southern University and A & M College freshman majoring in nursing, and Kyron Peters, a Booker T. Washington High basketball player, were killed. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will perform autopsies to determine the exact causes of death.

Southern University extends condolences to the family and loved ones of Courtney Hughes, a freshman from New Orleans who was majoring in nursing. She was fatally shot on Monday morning while visiting home during this holiday season. Our thoughts are also with others affected by this tragic incident.
