One dead, eight injured in a parking lot shootout in Tallahassee, Florida

Tallahassee, Fl. (10/30/2022) – On Oct. 29, just before midnight, officers with the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) were conducting crowd control at multiple locations along West Pensacola Street. As officers were in the area, multiple individuals within the crowds began shooting at Half-Time Liquors, located at 2101 West Pensacola Street, and Los Compadres, located at 2102 West Pensacola Street.

Officers who heard the shots located a victim at Half-Time Liquors and immediately began rendering lifesaving aid. The adult male victim sadly succumbed to his injuries on the scene. Eight other individuals sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe.

An armed adult male subject, who officers observed shooting into a large crowd, was seen running toward a McDonald’s restaurant. Knowing others could still be in danger with additional large crowds in adjacent parking lots. Two officers pursued the armed subject and verbally commanded him to drop his weapon. Officers subsequently shot the subject in an attempt to stop the threat and prevent further individuals from being victimized. The subject sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken into custody.

TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit assumed the investigation, and preliminary findings determined this to be an isolated incident.

Extra patrols were out Saturday night because of large crowds in town for Florida State home and Florida A&M University’s homecoming football games. The department also collaborated with other law enforcement agencies.

This is an open and active investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
