Update to racially charged Bomb Threat at Rapides High School

RPSO UPDATE: Juvenile Detectives and Sheriff’s Office Digital Forensics/Cyber Crimes Unit determined the threats to be a media hoax.

“Anytime a situation like this happens, we go all out to determine if these threats are credible or not,” said Sheriff Mark Wood. 

Juvenile and Cyber Crime Unit Detectives say their investigation is still ongoing. 

UPDATE: Superintendent Jeff Powell released the following statement: “The Rapides Parish School District is aware of the threat given towards Rapides High School within the last 24 hours. We are relentlessly committed to the safety of our students, faculty and the security of our school buildings. The district has policies and procedures to ensure that everyone within our schools is safe from danger. We are thankful that the school administration, resource officer, and local law enforcement worked tirelessly together to keep the students and faculty of Rapides High safe from the threat.”

LeCompte, LA (9/30/2022) – The Rapides Parish School System is aware and responding to a Bomb Threat at Rapides High School.

Update from Rapides Parish Sheriff Office:

At approximately 6:30 am this morning, the Deputy SRO at Rapides High School was made aware of the threat. Rapides High administrators were made aware of a threat of violence being spread on social media directed at Rapides High School. 

Deputies quickly identified the individual, and the student was taken into custody without incident when they arrived at school.  No weapons or suspicious packages were located.

The suspect was arrested, issued a juvenile citation, and released to their parents.

Normal operations have resumed at Rapides High School.  

This incident is still under investigation.
