A Boat flipped on Vernon Lake, 2 people rescued

Vernon Parish, LA. (9/23/2022) – At approximately 04:59 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2022, the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO) received a phone call about someone screaming for help at Vernon Lake.

The caller, an off-duty Leesville Police Department Officer who had just arrived home from his shift, stated that he could hear someone in the lake calling for help stating their boat was sinking. Agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and VPSO Deputies immediately responded to the area.

Wildlife Agents deployed a boat and rescued two males from the lake a short time later. The boaters advised that they had hit a stump in the lake with their boat, which caused the boat to capsize.

Wildlife Agents were also able to tow the men’s boat to shore, and no injuries were reported in this incident.
