Pitkin Man Arrested in Connection to Oil Well Site Thefts

Plainview Community, LA (2/2/2024) – On January 29, 2024, authorities responded to a theft complaint at an oil well site on Doshie Road, Plainview Community.

Allegedly, an electric motor and iron pipe were stolen, prompting an investigation by Sheriff’s Detectives from the Glenmora Substation.

During a follow-up on January 30, detectives spotted Mark Wayne Thompson, a 56-year-old resident of Pitkin, LA, removing items from an abandoned vehicle on Doshie Road. Suspecting a theft in progress, detectives conducted a traffic stop and interviewed Thompson. Although he claimed permission from another individual who supposedly purchased the abandoned truck, detectives couldn’t confirm the story at that time.

Later, the property owner denied giving permission for the vehicle parts to be removed, leading to probable cause for Thompson’s arrest on charges of theft (<$1,000) and criminal trespass. Thompson was located on January 31, taken into custody without incident, and released on a $1,000.00 bond the same day.

The ongoing investigation focuses on the stolen electric motor and pipe. Rapides Detectives collaborate with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, investigating similar thefts from oil well sites in both parishes. Authorities seek public assistance and urge anyone with information to contact Detective R. Cloud or Detective R. Norsworthy at the Criminal Investigations Division-Glenmora Substation.
