Alexandria, LA (12/18/2023) – A senior city official said the Alexandria Fire Department (AFD) arrested a Columbia man for allegedly setting a fire at Rapides Regional Medical Center.
Johnny Cubbit, 67, of Columbia, Louisiana was arrested and booked into the Rapides Detention Center. Cubbit was charged with one count of aggravated arson and one count of aggravated criminal damage. Cubbit was booked on Saturday, December 16, 2023, and released on Monday, December 18, 2023.
A spokesperson with Rapides Regional Medical Center said in an email:
On Saturday, Dec. 16 at 3:09 p.m., a small fire occurred on the seventh floor of Rapides Regional Medical Center. Internally, a Code Red was called and the Alexandria Fire Department, along with the Alexandria Police Department, responded quickly. The fire was contained and quickly extinguished. No one was injured. We would like to thank our first responders for their prompt assistance.
