Natchitoches, LA (10/12/2023) – The Natchitoches Police Department reported the shooting death of a Northwestern State University football player.
Ronnie Caldwell Jr, 21, a junior starting safety player from Austin, Texas, was shot multiple times and pronounced deceased on scene. A police spokesperson described the incident as an ‘unprovoked’ shooting at an apartment complex near campus.
No further information is known at this time.
The Saturday game against Nicholls has been canceled.
