St. Martin Parish Off-duty correctional deputy arrested after a fight

St. Martinville (8/28/2023) – On Friday, August 25, 2023, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a complaint in reference to a physical disturbance. The altercation occurred on Thursday evening, August 24, 2023, at a business located in the 4600 block of Catahoula Hwy.

Upon initial investigation, Deputies learned that an off-duty St. Martin Parish Correctional Deputy, who was identified as Myra Horton, 30, St. Martinville, LA. She was among several individuals who actively engaged in a physical disturbance that resulted in injuries to the complainant.

At the culmination of the investigation, Deputies obtained a Warrant of Arrest for Myra Horton. Late Sunday evening, August 27, 2023, she turned herself in to authorities with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. She was subsequently booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

1 Count(s) of LA. R.S. 14:34.1-Second Degree Battery-(Felony)

1 Count(s) of LA R.S. 14:329.1–Riot– (Felony).

Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office are sworn to uphold the law and are held to a higher standard. This type of behavior will not be tolerated and, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, she was terminated from her employment with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are pending.
